MOre importantly what needs to be done to help people and the planet thrive, that is the primary message from the National Science Foundation. They have announced the 14 grand engineering challenges for the 21st century . The important part is they want you to rate them.. Sustainability, health, reducing vulnerability and joy of living, are the four primary categories which encompass what humanity needs to flourish and the planet to thrive. Thw NAE asks you to vote here.. Robert Langer of MIT,Robert Scolow of Princeton, and Larry Page president of products and co-founder of Google posit these possible challenges:: * Make solar energy affordable * Provide energy from fusion * Develop carbon sequestration methods * Manage the nitrogen cycle * Provide access to clean water * Restore and improve urban infrastructure * Advance health informatics * Engineer better medicines * Reverse-engineer the brain * Prevent nuclear terror * Secure cyberspace * Enhance virtual reality * Advance personalized learning * Engineer the tools for scientific discovery
